Adam Kofoed serves as the City Administrator for West Branch, Iowa, where he manages daily city operations, implements policy direction from the Mayor and City Council, and works closely with community partners to guide West Branch’s continued growth and prosperity.
A proud Iowa native, Adam holds a bachelor’s degree from Coe College in Cedar Rapids and a graduate degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Iowa. His career in public service is deeply rooted in Iowa’s values of collaboration, stewardship, and practical innovation. Adam’s background in urban planning, economic development, and municipal management has helped him build communities that balance progress with preservation and sustainability.
Adam is believed to be the first openly autistic city administrator in the world. He is a strong advocate for inclusion, transparency, and authentic leadership in local government. His lived experience brings a unique perspective to problem-solving, communication, and community engagement—strengthening both his organization and the people it serves.
A U.S. military veteran, Adam credits his service for shaping his work ethic and dedication to public duty. Outside of work, he enjoys golfing, exploring Iowa’s small towns, and spending time with his family. He is passionate about ensuring that West Branch continues to honor its heritage while embracing an inclusive and forward-thinking future.
